Student Enrichment

The buildings blocks of the successful Sixth Form education provided at Hayfield School are “breadth and balance”. Whilst academic success and achievement is a priority, we place great emphasis on encouraging all sixth formers to be proactive and engage with the wider community life of the school.

Many of our Sixth formers enjoy helping lower school students by participating in activities such as paired reading, paired sums, in class support and Buddy club. There are also a wide variety of sports clubs for post 16 students to become involved with. Not only do such activities enrich the lives of younger pupils they can also equip sixth formers with a range of valuable skills which are highly valued in the workplace and by University Admissions tutors. To this end we also encourage all post 16 students to undertake at least one work placement during their time at Hayfield. Again this is an invaluable selling point regarding University applications and interviews as well as enhancing any C.V.

Peer Mentoring

All Year 12 students are invited to apply to become a peer mentor at Hayfield. Peer Mentors become an invaluable source of support throughout the school and are seen as positive role models for younger pupils. We currently deliver the ASDAN short course award which enables students to gain a recognised qualification in Peer Mentoring. Year 12 students further their own personal development and leadership skills through ongoing training and support from Peer Mentor Co-ordinators.
